Introduction

Govt: Degree College Jowar is comapratively a new college in Buner Tehsil Salarzai. Jowar is the largest village of the said tehsil and is a gateway to the rest of Bunir District from the Swat Side.In the past, it served as a resting place for the people of Swat coming to visit the revered shrine of the well-known Saint, Pir Baba(RA).

The building, which housed this college, was origionally built to accommodate the local High School that was upgraded to the status of a Higher Secondary School and finally converted to a degree college.

During the reign of the Wali of Swat, the people of the locality had generously donated the valuable land to this institution of learning. However, like many other unfortunate educational institutions of Malakand Division, it too became a victim of the terrorists uprising in 2009 and was brought down completely to the earth at the time.

Though the students and the staff of the college suffered during their time in the tents, they availed a unique opportunity of experiencing a romantic atmosphere of a tented campus-unique in a sense that perhaps no other college in Pakistan has enjoyed such a 'privilege'.

However, the people of Buner are thankful to the government of UAE who constructed a building for them on the very site of its ruination. As long as the building of this college stands, it will remind them the love of their brotherly country who has played and is playing a very valuable role in the development of our beloved Pakistan.
