Historical Background
The area where Khattak tribe is surrounded by Distict Kohat, Bannu, Lucky and Mianwali.
Besides this Khattak tribe lives in various other parts of Khyber Pakhunkhwa and Punjab province.
In 1972, the then government of NWFP sanctioned establishment of Inter College in Karak- the center of Lawagher Valley. The college started functioning in just two rooms, deprived of all sorts of facilities, near tehsil building Karak. The first academic session started in 1972. In 1974 it was shifted to its original newly constructed building situated in the present scenic location on Karak-Bannu Road. Since 1972 till date the college has undergone tremendous development. Degree classes were launched also in 1974. Consequently the college was upgraded and Government Inter College Karak became Government Degree College Karak. Science classes were initiated in this college in 1977. In 1988, it was once again upgraded to postgraduate level as master classes in the subject of English and Mathematics were launched. Due to excessive burden of the students of the area second shift became the dire need of the college which was realized in 1990. In 2010, the Higher Education Department Government of Khyber pakhtunkhwa launched BS-4 year program in the subject of Physics in accordance with national education policy 2009. In the following year the same 4 year program was started in the subject of Mathematics, Botany and English. Currently BS-4 year program is running in the subjects of Physics, Mathematics, English, Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, political Science and Economics.
