Takht - i - Bahi

Takht- i - Bahi is located about 13 kms northwest of the city of Mardan. The ruins of an ancient Buddhist monastery are situated on the top of a 152-meter (500 feet) high hill. The monastery of Takht- i -Bahi was first mentioned by General Court, the French officer of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1836. Takht- i -Bahi is the most impressive and complete Buddhist monastery in Pakistan. This site has produced fragmentary sculptures in stone and country stucco that indicate the highly developed sculptural sense of their creators. But the most remarkable feature is the design and arrangement of the range of small shrines, which surrounds the main stupa-court. This site, dating back to 2nd-3rd century A.D., consists of a large rectangular court, on the north of which is the main monastery and to the south is a well-planned monastic shrine of high terrace. In Persian and Urdu, the word “takht” means “throne” or “top,” and “bahi” means “water” or “spring.” Together, the meaning is “spring at the top.” It seems that the monastery was called Takht-i-Bahi because of its location at the top of a mountain, next to a stream. Local residents believe that it was named after the spring on the left of the site. It is a majestic place.

It is a well known fact that Education plays a vital role the development and prosperity of a nation. In 1987, an Intermediate College was established, in a hired building, to decorate the youth of the area with the jewels of Education. After three years, it was shifted to a newly built spacious campus at Takht-i-Bhai- Rajar road. In1991, it was up graded to Degree level. The college is affiliated with B.I.S.E Mardan and Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan. Admissions Policy is based on Merit. The main purpose of the college is to provide a congenial atmosphere for the fullest possible development of the learners and equip them with the art of living as true Muslims & responsible citizens Pakistan.
