Introduction

The Govt. Girls Degree College, Hayatabad, Peshawar was opened in July 2006, with 70 students in FA/F.Sc 1, and BA/B.Sc Part 1. There were nearly two dozen subjects offered at intermediate and degree classes: Psychology, Sociology, Mathematics, Economics, Civics/Political Science, Islamic Studies, Geography, Statistics, Home Economics, Law, Health and Physical Education, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Urdu Elective, English Elective, with English, Urdu, Islamic Education and Pakistan Studies as compulsory disciplines (The classes in the subject of English literature at intermediate level were started after 2011). On 20th November, 2008, Minister for Higher Education Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (previously called NWFP) Qazi Asad inaugurated the building officially. Ms. Naheed Rehman was the Principal of the college at that time. She served as principal of the college from 2006 to 2010. . At the time this College was built, it was outside the city area; with increasing population, the college is now surrounded by commercial and official buildings. The first ever batch of this institute, completed its graduation in the year 2008. Laboratories of Zoology, Botany, Physics, Chemistry,Computer, Geography and Psychology have many items in them. Since 2008, hundreds of students have graduated from this college, and they are contributing for the uplift of the country. Presently the college is catering the educational needs of nearly 2000 students of intermediate and BS levels. The purpose and aims of this college are very clear-to spread the light of education in the society.
