Introduction

When the Government Post Graduate Girl’s College, Saidu Sharif, was established in 1972 it was temporarily housed in the upper story of the nearby Government Girls High School. The institution was shifted to its present building in 1988.

Home Economics and Computer Science sections are the recent additions. Efforts are ongoing to equip the institution with modern and state-of-the-art facilities and to add new subject faculties to improve women’s education in the area both quantitatively and qualitatively.

The college is located in the historical area of Saidu Sharif and is surrounded by other important institutions like Swat Museum, Central Wing of Saidu Group of Hospitals, Government Girls High School and Government Post Graduate Jahanzeb College.

Known for its scenic beauty, Swat valley, the ancient Uddiyana Kingdom, is famous for its rich cultural and archaeological heritage.

The former ruler of Swat estate, Mian Gul Abdul Haq Jahanzeb, placed a high priority on education and spread a network of schools throughout the state. His love for education can be gauged by the magnificent building of Jahanzeb College and the adjacent college colony for teachers.

Mian Gul Abdul Haq Jahanzeb was aware of the importance of women education and was interested in the introduction of quality education for female in the area. Establishment of Sangota Public School and Girls High School, Saidu Sharif Swat are testaments to his belief in the importance of women’s education.

Although, the college caters well to the educational needs of the students there is still much needed to be done to equip it fully with modern educational and teaching facilities.

At present the college consists of the following blocks:

1. Double Storey Main Building.

2. Science Block

3. Student Hostel.

4. Staff Hostel.

5. Post Graduate Block.

6. BS Block
