PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

The college, inaugurated in 2004, is established in response to the growing needs of imparting quality education to the students of far flung areas of district Kohat. I believe education lies at the heart of almost all the challenges that the country confronts. That is why it is to be treated as a strategic imperative and not just a desirable social goal. It is the key that will unlock almost every problem. It is hoped that this college would produce a generation which could act as guiding light for the coming generations. Our

INTRODUCTION

Government Degree College, Lachi Kohat was established on 2004. The college spreads over an area of 50 Kanal, having highly conducive environment for educational activities. The college has a splendid infrastructure, committed academicians, airy classrooms, well equipped laboratory, digital Library, spacious sports ground and lush green lawns. The college aims to excel in producing high-profile intelligentsia in different fields such as defence, civil services, politics, engineering, medicine and education.

The college has yet to move a long way ahead to help the students achieve their desired aspirations and above all, be true to our vision and mission.

AFFILIATION / SCHEME OF STUDIES

This College is affiliated with BISE Kohat at Inter level and Kohat University of Science and Technology at the graduate (BA/B.Sc) level.

ADMISSIONS

Admission to Intermediate (Part-I) will be completed according to the schedule set by the Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education Kohat or Kohat University of Science & Technology as the case may be. Prospectus along with the admission form can be obtained from the admission Office on payment during working hours just after the issuance of the admission schedule of the Board/University. The candidates are required to submit their admission forms, complete in all respects, according to the schedule issued by the college administration.

GENERAL ADMISSION RULES

  1. Admissions are made strictly on the basis of merit.
  2. The application form duly filled by the candidate must be supported by the attested photocopies of the following documents:
  1. SSC certificate for admission to any level of studies.
  2. Detail Marks certificate and Provisional Certificate of the last examination passed.
  3. Character Certificate issued by the educational institute last attended. Where the candidate has passed the last examination in private capacity, such certificate shall be signed by a gazetted officer.
  4. Domicile Certificate.
  5. Self/ Father’s CNIC/Form B.
  6. Fresh Passport Size Colour photographs (Five).
  1. In all cases the decision of the college administration, in light of the rules laid down by HED, shall be final.
  2. A candidate, who is applying for admission one or more years late after passing SSC/HSSC Examination, will have to produce an affidavit to the effect that he/she has not been admitted previously to any college/ university and he/she is availing the opportunity of admission for the first time.
  3. Students passing SSC/HSSC Examination in Supplementary are not eligible for admission in the academic year in which they have passed the examination.
  4. Students having been placed in grade “E” in SSC Examination are not allowed for admission in 1st year in any faculty/group. Candidates who obtain less than 45% marks in the last examination passed are not eligible for admission.
  5. No regular admission in any class is allowed to a candidate who has already passed equivalent examination in another faculty/group or subject.
  6. Candidates, who fail to confirm their seat by depositing the required fee within the specified period shown on any merit list issued by the concerned admission committee, shall lose their right of admission and their seats will be allotted to the next candidate in order of merit.
  7. Twenty extra marks are awarded to Hafiz-e-Quran. Such candidates shall not only support their claim by the relevant certificate but they shall also have to pass the recitation test conducted by the relevant admission committee.

NOTE: An affidavit in light of the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s decision must be submitted by all the candidates at the time of admission (Specimen attached).

UPPER AGE LIMIT

  1. The upper age limit for admission shall be as under and shall be counted with respect to the closing date for receipt of applications for admission to the concerned level or faculty:
  1. 1st year 19 years
  2. 3rd year 21 years

AGE RELAXATION

  1. Overage candidates (except under sport quota) can apply for relaxation in the upper age limit for upto three years by giving cogent reasons for availing such relaxation. Application for age relaxation must be submitted before the closing date of submission of the application forms. Principal of the college is authorized to grant one year relaxation in the upper age limits at all levels as defined above.
  2. The Director Higher Education is authorized to grant age relaxation up to three years. The principal may submit such genuine hardship cases, by giving cogent reasons, to the Director Higher Education after providing provisional admission to such candidates, if otherwise eligible.
  3. The provisional admission shall stand cancelled if the relaxation in the upper age limit under sections (i) and (ii) above under heading “Age Relaxation” is not granted by the competent authority within thirty days of making such a request.

CANCELLATION OF ADMISSION

Admission in the college shall stand cancelled under the following circumstances:

  1. If any information given by the candidate in his/her Admission Form is found to be incorrect at any stage.
  2. If a student fails to attend the classes within 10 days of the commencement of the session.
  3. If a student is found to be a professional agitator, or has been struck off from any educational institution on disciplinary grounds.
  4. If a student is practically involved in politics.
  5. On the request of the student provided the request is made within a specified time period notified by the admission committee.

STRUCK OFF ON ACCOUNT OF ABSENTEEISM

A student, remaining absent for more than six consecutive days without any approved leave, shall be struck off the college roll without any notice.

RE-ADMISSION

A student whose admission is cancelled or whose name is struck off the college roll on account of long absence can apply for re-admission to the principal within fortnight of the issuance of such notification. The principal may allow his/her re-admission on payment of the re-admission fee and any other outstanding dues.

Re- admission for the second time in a current academic session is, however, not allowed.

ATTENDANCE

At least 75% attendance of the total delivered lectures is compulsory for a student in theory and practical classes in each subject. Students falling short of 75% attendance in any subject will not be allowed to appear in the upcoming examination. The attendance of the students is marked as follows:

STUDENTS’ IDENTITY CARD

The college identity card is issued to all students within fifteen days of their admission. It is binding upon every student to obtain the college identity card and display it on their chest in college premises during the college hours. In case of loss or spoilage, a duplicate identity card is issued on the payment of penalty.

FEE REMISSION

Fee concession/ remission is admissible only to the deserving students which will be determined by the relevant committee in light of the rules and procedures.

STIPENDS/SCHOLARSHIPS

Deserving / Hardworking students are granted financial assistance/prizes from Pupils’ Fund. Besides this scholarships like MORA, PMU, FATA and Fauji Foundation etc are also floated from different agencies. Students can however, avail only a single stipend/scholarship in an academic year.

REFUND OF COLLEGE/HOSTEL SECURITY:

The students are required to apply for the refund of college/hostel security within one month after the termination of their last examination, failing which their security will be forfeited.

COLLEGE MANAGEMENT

  1. College Council:

The Council is constituted of senior staff, eminent educationists, parents, alumni, representatives of District Finance and that of C & W Departments, headed by the Principal which deliberates upon all the important issues relating to the college affairs. The council enjoys sufficient administrative as well as academic powers.

  1. College Academic Council:

The Council, comprising of all HOD’s, the Controller of Examinations, under the chairpersonship of the Principal, has a guiding role in the academic uplift of the college. The College Academic Council plays a proactive role in recommending appropriate course contents for the respective disciplines.

  1. Academic Calendar:

Keeping in view the Academic Calendar of Kohat University of Science & Technology and the Academic Schedule of the Higher Education Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the college devises and adopts its own Academic Calendar.

  1. Proctorial Board:

The Proctorial Board works under the guidance and supervision of the Chief Proctor to deal with the discipline related affairs.

  1. Students’ Counseling:

Advisors are appointed from the faculty to guide the students candidly in the broader curricular and co-curricular perspectives which spread over even to the career counseling regarding the students’ coveted careers in future.

  1. General Advice/ Guidance:

Students are advised to remain in touch with the class teachers for every kind of curricular and co-curricular advice and guidance. Moreover, students are encouraged to seek guidance of the Course Instructors / Course Advisors / Heads of respective Departments / the Co-ordinator (Director Academics) BS Program, regarding the relevant queries.

  1. Examinations:

The students at Inter level are required to appear in home examination for evaluation to be held twice during the academic year besides their class tests.

SUPPORTING FACILITIES

  • MEDICAL FACILITY

The College maintains a Minor Medical Treatment during the college hours.

  • SECURITY

Students are valuable asset and our future. Prevalent security environment demanded that appropriate measures be taken in order to secure the premises of the institution from any unpleasant incident. Following measures are taken to maintain the security of the college:-

  1. Installation of 07x CCTV Cameras.
  2. Provision of Metal Detectors.
  3. Construction of 03 Check Posts.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

·FUNCTIONS

Functions on National and Religious events are arranged in the college from time to time. These include Debates, Declamation Contests, Quiz Competitions and other functions in English, Urdu and Pashto languages.

·SPORTS

The college provides adequate facilities for sports activities in order to improve the physical abilities of the students. The college teams participate in various sports tournaments under the supervision of Directorate of the Higher Education.

·LIBRARY

To inculcate the habit of reading amongst the students, the college provides a well-furnished library with a wide range of books on various subjects. Every student is eligible to become member of library. He will be entitled to keep specific number of books for specified time period

RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES

A student hostel is under construction and will be available to the students in the near future (Inshallah). That would accommodate 75 students.

CODE OF CONDUCT & GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Beside academic pursuits, the college administration takes keen interest in the character building of the students so that after completing their academic period at this college they become not only good citizens but also bring good name to the Alma Mater. For achieving these objectives following rules are laid down for the students :-

  1. Every student is bound to observe the religious obligations and to show tolerance for other religions, beliefs, customs and traditions. Promoting communal, regional and religious disharmony among students or college staff is strictly prohibited.
  2. Taking part in politics and wearing of any badge or cap of political parties/federations within the college premises is strictly banned.
  3. Every student shall observe the cultural and social norms of the society.
  4. Parents/guardians of the regular students and ex-students can visit the college after 11:00 AM for any official work.
  5. Every student has to be loyal to the ideology of Pakistan and is not allowed to commit any act which may damage the honour and the integrity of the motherland.
  6. Every student must render due respect to the teaching and administrative staff and also abide by the rules and regulations introduced by the college administration from time to time.
  7. Smoking and keeping intoxicants in the college premises are unlawful and strictly prohibited.
  8. All such activities which are contrary to the norms of good conduct are strictly forbidden like making a noise, creating disturbance, interrupting students during study hours, plucking flowers and the like.
