Government College of Management Sciences No. 1, Township Bannu, is a public-sector institution operating under the Higher Education Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It was established during the academic session of 1971–72 as the Government Commercial Training Institute, Bannu. At that time, it functioned as an intermediate-level institution and offered a one-year Certificate in Commerce followed by a one-year Diploma in Commerce in accounting and shorthand.
During the academic session of 1980–81, the institution was upgraded from intermediate to degree level. It was upgraded again in 2004 to postgraduate level with the introduction of the two-year Master of Commerce program. In 2007, the college introduced the four-year BBA (Honours) program. Following this development, its name was changed from Government Postgraduate College of Commerce, Bannu, to Government College of Management Sciences, Bannu. The four-year BS Commerce program was subsequently introduced in the 2017–18 academic session.
Since its establishment, the college has contributed to commerce, business and management education in Bannu and its surrounding areas. Its academic approach combines classroom lectures with presentations, assignments, examinations, computer-based practical work and internship training. This combination is intended to develop students’ academic knowledge, professional competence and understanding of practical business problems.
