Introduction

Government Afzal Khan Lala Post Graduate College Matta Swat has completed its 43 years of dedication. It has stood true to its promise to impart quality education to all who come to seek it. It has transformed lives of the many who are leading a successful life and are playing an improtant role in shaping the destiny of the nation

The college building, residential bungalows and students' hostels were built in the reign of the ex-ruler of Swat. However, on account of some unavoidable constraints, the teaching-learning process could not commence until 1971, two years after the state had been merged. The Bechelors Hostel and the Science Block were erected later by Government of Pakistan. In the initial stages only the Intermediate level subjects of Science and Arts were taught here. It was upgraded to degree level in 1975. Regular B.Sc classes commenced in 1981. A detached magnificent two-story building was built for the purpose. Classes of Computer science began in 1998 to our heart's content. Initially a handsome amount was set apart from the college resources to buy five computer sets. A spacious hall was alloted to the computer laboratory. Then a magnifient, well-adorned and highly equipped IT block was erected in 2007.

The impact of the swat crises in 2008-09 for the college was violent. This glorious institution was sacked , blasted and looted. So this once-flourshing college was turned into a pile of debris.

The college was declared to be upgraded to post-gradute level by the Chief Minister during his visit to upper Swat on 13 October 2009. Also it was renamed after the great stateman and scholar Mr. Afzal Khan Lala. The miracle of it was that the rehabilitation of the institution became with full swing and Bachlors of Studies classes were commenced in 2011.
