College History
Government Postgradute College for Women Mandian Abbottabad was established with the aid of Asian Development Bank on 5th May 1995. The College was formally inaugurated by Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan the then Chief Minister KPK. The first Principal of the College was Professor Syeda Shaheen Gul who served with zest and zeal from 14-04-1995 to 10-04-1999. It was due to her efforts that the college was shifted in the present building. Then Professor Farkhanda Saeed took over and provided her services to the College efficiently till 18-09-2006. After that Professor Chaman Farkhanda became the Principal of the College and worked till 11-02-2008.
After that Professor Shabana Kausar became Principal of the college. She took her office on 20-06-2008 and served till 19th August 2016. Under her leadership and administration college flourish a lot. Construction of new academic block, Commencement of M.A Urdu classes, Procurement of college bus and publication of the 1st college magazine “Deodar” were the achievements of her period. At present Professor Qaisra Perveen is serving as Principal of College.
The College is situated on College Road near Kaghan Colony. Its extensive body consists of beautiful academic blocks with spacious classrooms, sports grounds, well-equipped science labs, a multilingual lab, a library containing approximately 7000 books on variety of subjects and a function hall. The college also provides hostel facility to the student of far-flung areas. A new block named after the great Muslim scientist Umar Khayyam has been recently built for the students. It was inaugurated by Mr. Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani Advisor to the Chief Minister KPK for Higher Education on 23rd Nov, 2013. The College was upgraded on 8th May 2013. Numbers of faculty and students have multiplied. Postgraduate classes in Urdu have also been started. A new science block containing new laboratories is near to completion which will further enhance the performance of college.
