04 Year BS (Sociology)

04 Year BS (Sociology)

Introduction

By the grace of Almighty Allah, it is an occasion of great pleasure for me to be a pioneer of this department. The department took his initial step when the newly established Government Degree College Wari Dir Upper came into existence during August 2011. That was the period during which Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa launched B.S Programs in Government colleges for the first time. The department is affiliated with Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Sheringal Upper Dir and up to 2016, two batches have successfully completed their B.S Sociology degrees awarded by the said university which is a great honor for this department. We faced a lot of hurdles in initials years due to the deficiency in resources but with the passage of time, all the barriers were removed and in a very short span of time, the department has reached its climax. Department of Sociology has enrolled 52 students in B.S (04-Year) Program in 04 Semesters while qualified, hard working and devoted staff members are offering their services for the smooth functioning of the department. Moreover, Higher Education Department offering semester wise HEEF (Higher Education Endowment Fund) Scholarships to B.S students including top two position holder students of each semester, disable students, orphans students and students belongs from other provinces enrolled in B.S (04-Year) Sociology, due to which a lot of deserved students have been supported economically.

The main purpose behind the establishment of this department is to provide quality education on doorsteps with low cost in a rural setup as compared to university where the students have no access due to economic constraints, to uplift the educational standard of students to such an extent where they are able to compete in global market by the degree they earned and to develop the young generation socially, economically and morally in the field of profession, education, and research. The students of B.S Sociology have joined the department with a broad vision to serve the humanity in future and to earn a job oriented degree. The students are engaged in field work and research activities which are mandatory for the completion of B.S (04-Year) degree program and will be helpful to identify and minimize various societal problems through the application of sociological principles.

I hope that the department will be helpful to socialize the students to face the challenges of future, will be prepared to work for the betterment of the community and to utilize their capabilities to overcome social, cultural, psychological, political and economic issues in our society.

In conclusion, the students are advised to have full devotion towards their studies, to utilize their precious time in constructive activities and dedicate themselves for the well-being of entire humanity. I wish all of you a bright future and excellence in life. Waseem Akram (H.O.D)
